He studied under Joaquim Manuel da Rocha and later went to Rome, where he studied under Antonio Cavalluci and achieved success. He returned to Lisbon in 1796 and was appointed the first painter of Chamber and Court by the Prince Regent in 1802. Domingos António do Espírito Santo, known as Domingos Sequeira, was a Portuguese painter born in 1768. He studied under Joaquim Manuel da Rocha and later went to Rome, where he studied under Antonio Cavalluci and achieved success. He returned to Lisbon in 1796 and was appointed the first painter of Chamber and Court by the Prince Regent in 1802. He was also the director of the Drawing Class at the Academia de Comércio e Marinha do Porto. Sequeira was commissioned to make the sketches and direct the execution of the monumental tableware intended to be offered to the Duke of Wellington in 1813. He is considered the precursor of the Romantic movement in Portuguese art. Sequeira went into exile in Paris in 1823 and died in Rome in 1837. He... Read full biography
