Jacob Epstein was born in Poland and studied at the State Institute of the Arts in Lviv, where he took part in a number of exhibitions, including the large exhibition of Ukrainian art 'Since the XI century until today' in Kiev. He was a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lviv and worked additionally as a conservator and restorer of Ukrainian buildings and sculptures.
