Johann Heinrich Tischbein was born as one of nine children in 1722 in Haina in Hesse and belonged to the first generation of a family of highly talented painters, helped to determine the epoch of the late Baroque, Rococo and Classicism in Germany. Tischbein's talent was discovered early and delivered a Paris scholarship. Johann Heinrich Tischbein was born as one of nine children in 1722 in Haina in Hesse and belonged to the first generation of a family of highly talented painters, helped to determine the epoch of the late Baroque, Rococo and Classicism in Germany. Tischbein's talent was discovered early and delivered a Paris scholarship. He was a student of Carle Vanloo (1705 - 1765) and learned in the five years of his stay the French art of fine portraits in the spirit of classicism. After a stay in Venice by Gian Battista Piazzetta and in Rome, Tischbein returned back to Kassel in 1751, where he was appointed a few years later as the court painter of the Landgrave Wilhelm VIII. Tischbein's talent was discovered early and delivered a Paris scholarship.
