John Didrk Frisch was born in 1835. He studied at the Copenhagen Academy where he focused on figure and genre painting. Frederik Increase (1823-1910) was a close family friend and his role model. Later, Frisch concentrated on landscape painting, where he was very inspired by the region north of Copenhagen. On a tour of Zealand, he also gained further impressions of the Danish landscape. Later, Frisch concentrated on landscape painting, where he was very inspired by the region north of Copenhagen. On a tour of Zealand, he also gained further impressions of the Danish landscape. In 1867 he received a travel grant to Rome. However, on the way there he died in Florence from a typhoid-cholera infection.
