The painter Emil Claus, also the co-founder of the artist group "Vie et Lumière", had major influence on his art. Huys preferred plein air painting and mostly created narrative landscapes in the style of the Belgian post-impressionist movement called Luminism. Since 1908 the artist has been represented at national and international exhibitions. Huys died in 1932.
