Wilhelm Schacht (1872-1951) studied in Leipzig and Munich, where he eventually turned to the realistic style of painting of the Barbizon school. Nevertheless some of his works exude a sentimental idyll. Only in the interwar period, his style became more simple, loose and expressive. Schacht has mainly been working as an established landscape painter and in 1923 co-founded the ‘Rothenburger Künstlerbund’. Over a long period, Schacht was active in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
