Zhu Ying was born in Xiaoshan, Zhejiang Province in 1920. He graduated from the Western Art Section of the National Art Training School in 1940. In the years that followed, he was active as an artist and as a teacher. He is currently an advisor to Shanghai Jiaotong University and the Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology. Although Zhu made ink wash paintings in his early career, he is mainly known for his oil paintings.
