Its picturesque landscapes and Vesuvius definitely marked the mind of Alexander Brullov. It was during this stay that his talent as a portrait painter revealed himself, the architect by training who had come to design the most excellent Italian monuments. In 1824, Brulloff moved to Naples in a house by the bay, overlooking the promenade of Santa Lucia which will serve as his workshop.
