He studied and traveled in England and Europe for two years and exibited at the Royal Academy in London and at the Paris Salon in 1929. In the same year he returned to Australia. He became a foundation member of the Australian Academy of Art. He was also made a Life Master of the National Art School and was elected to to the Society of Artists in 1930.
