Hopf was a member of the Hamburger Künstlerverein and in 1927-28 he exhibited with the Hamburg secession. In 1930 he went on his first of numerous travels to Norway. All of his works were destroyed in WW II. In 1950 he became a member of the Hamburgische Künstlerschaft.
