Poppe Folkerts, a German marine and landscape painter, was a native from the East Frisian island of Norderney. From 1897 to 1900 he studied under Carl Saltzman (1847-1923), which was followed by another year of studies under Friedrich Kallmorgen (1856-1924), from 1902 to 1903. A master student of Ludwig Dettmann (1865-1944) he finally graduated at the Academy in Königsberg in 1903.
