He is a life-long Canadian who spent his childhood in Regina and loved exploring the natural world from an early age, having been allowed as a city boy to spend much time on an uncle's farm. He has also attended the Scottsdale Artists' School and pursued ongoing studies at zoos in Toronto, Calgary, and Phoenix.
