He was the fourth of seven children of Charles Henry Streeton and Mary Blundell, nee Johnson. In 1880, Arthur was employed as a junior clerk by the wine and spirit importers, Rolfe and Co., 98 Bourke Street West, Melbourne and later by White's Soft Goods.
