Carl August Richter was the father of Ludwig Richter and studied at the Dresden Academy of Art in Germany from 1793 under Adrian Zingg. He developed a close friendship with Zingg and together they hiked through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, creating numerous drawings and graphics of Saxon Switzerland. In 1810, Richter became a professor of engraving at the Dresden Academy. He is known for his mastery of converting smaller etchings into larger formats and transposing extensively cross-hatched... Carl August Richter was the father of Ludwig Richter and studied at the Dresden Academy of Art in Germany from 1793 under Adrian Zingg. He developed a close friendship with Zingg and together they hiked through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, creating numerous drawings and graphics of Saxon Switzerland. In 1810, Richter became a professor of engraving at the Dresden Academy. He is known for his mastery of converting smaller etchings into larger formats and transposing extensively cross-hatched models into a rich wash technique with typical Zingg's foliage. The templates for his artwork are most likely two etchings from the series of the 'Four Great Landscapes' according to Berchem by Danckert Danckerts (1634-1666) (Hollstein 8 and 9).
