In the following year Wuttke underwent a hiking trip to Rome, where he settled until 1876. He finally became a master student of Eugen Dücker (1841-1916) in Düsseldorf. A specialized landscape painter, Wuttke was very famous for his Orientalist compositions and established an extensive circle of clients, including Emperor Wilhelm II and Prince Henry of Prussia.
