Landscape and hunting scene painter Clemens Freitag was born on October 24, 1883 in Heisingen (today part of Essen, Germany). He studied at the art academies in Dusseldorf, Berlin and Munich. In Dusseldorf he was taught and greatly influenced by Johann Diedrich "Jean" Hendrichs (1882-1937). Freitag remained in Munich, where he joined the artist association "Der Bund".
