Father of the painter Joan Soler i Puig (Barcelona 1906-1986), Domènec was known mainly for his landscapes, in which he portrayed views of the valley of Núria, the Vall d'Aran, Ribes de Freser and the Alt Pirineu. He is considered one of the principal disciples of the painter of Sabadell Joan Vila Cinca. Domènec trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell, where he learned to paint Joan Vila Cinca, and in 1889 he continued his studies at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona (Llotja), directed at that time by Antoni Caba.
