After his graduation in 1900, he taught at various schools and, besides, he became a self-taught painter and graphic artist. He received important stimulus on study trips to Munich, Paris and Upper Italy. 1906/07 he lived in Lauenen, then four years in Bern, then in Twann and starting from 1918 in Ligerz.
