After studying at the National Art School of Stockholm from 1870-1880, Carl George Arsenius left for Paris where he became a student of Jean-Paul Laurens. He choose Chantilly, France as his permanent residence in 1886, which did not prevent King Oscar II of Sweden to continually order equestrian portraits from the artist.
