Following a short apprenticeship under the copperplate engraver Cornelius Bloemaert, Giovanni Odazzi entered the studio of Ciro Ferri (1633-1689) and later became a pupil and assistant of Giovanni Battista Gaulli (1639-1709), known as il Bacciccio, following Ferri's death. Odazzi spent almost his entire life in Rome and Latium and his style developed in the same vein as that which he was taught by Ferri and Gaulli with little divergence.
