During his stay in Italy between 1841-1851, Gustaf Wilhelm Palm often conducted plein air studies in Villa Borghese's beautiful gardens in central Rome, usually in the early morning or during the cool evening hours. Dated examples are known from 1844, 1846, 1847 and 1849.
