Hans Böttcher was born in Berlin in 1897. He taught himself as a painter and traveled through France and Brazil. After that he worked as a freelance artist in Berlin. His early works were stylistically committed to the late Expressionism. During the war, Böttcher was forbidden to paint and many of his works were destroyed.
