Born in the state of Victoria, Australia, he received art training from Max Meldrum. Born in the state of Victoria, Australia, he received art training from Max Meldrum. By age 24 he had already had his first solo exhibition, and he soon became a teacher himself, as well as, for many years, art critic and overall familiar persona on the Australian contemporary art stage.
