At the age of fifteen he fled the country following the German invasion of Poland to join the Polish air force in England. After the war he immigrated to Montreal Canada. At the age of fifteen he fled the country following the German invasion of Poland to join the Polish air force in England. After the war he immigrated to Montreal Canada. He brought his wife to be, Margaret Jones and later settled in Calgary Alberta. Mario, being a very determined individual, taught himself to read and write and received a diploma in chemistry. Later he taught himself to draw and paint and was one of the first artists to be represented by the newly established Gainsbough art galleries in Calgary.
