In 1946, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice to study at the Free School of Nude with Armando Pizzinato. In this time he met and became friends with Emilio Vedova. At the end of 1947, Parmeggiani traveled to Paris where he met the European avant-garde of the first half of the century.
