A wonderfully desirable example by Vénard, a colorful and boldly executed work exemplary of the artist’s most desired gesture. An academically trained painter and notable exponent of the French mid-century post-Cubist movement, Claude Vénard enjoyed a successful lifelong career following his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1944. Vénard’s was prolific and his work promoted by a number of internationally recognized galleries. Paintings by the artist hang in many prestigious collections, including at the Tate in London. Vénard’s popularity continues, with his paintings garnering a strong following on the international auction scene. A sought after subject, this "Arlequin" is in excellent conserved condition, the canvas lined with a museum quality fully reversible BEVA-371/Mylar(r)Chiffon lining to address distracting craquelure that flattened beautifully. Now fully conserved and housed in a fine replacement frame to complement the work's importance, the painting is stunning on the gallery's walls.
