Grant worked in Portland, Maine, before establishing a studio at 12 West Street in Boston by 1882. He was a member of the Boston Art Club, where his works were exhibited between 1877 and 1905. Thirty-six examples of his work were exhibited by Boston dealer Noyes & Blakeslee (exhibition dates unrecorded) and another twenty at the Boston gallery of J. Eastman Chase in 1884.
