As a teenager he worked as an apprentice in a local stained glass window firm where his early talents were first discovered. At great sacrifice, his parents arranged for him to study under the noted Parisian painting master Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). It was this connection which helped launch Flour’s early career as an accomplished portrait painter where he debuted his work in 1887 at the Salon des Artistes Français. In 1906 he returned to Avignon where he joined the School of Fine Arts as an instructor in drawing and painting of first year students.
