Alexis Paul Arapoff (1904-1948). 1904 Born in St. Petersburg Russia, his father was a Major General in charge of a Red Cross unit and his mother Dr. Catherine Arapoff (eye surgeon), one of the first female Physician to get a degree from The University of Moscow. She was the niece of Tolstoy. Alexis summered with family on the Tolstoy domain, "Poyisjura" in Lithuania and in Finland. The family also traveled extensively through out Austria, Germany, and Switzerland visiting museums. In 1918-20... Read full biography

She was the niece of Tolstoy. Alexis summered with family on the Tolstoy domain, "Poyisjura" in Lithuania and in Finland. In 1918-20 due to the revolution, the cold weather and a typhoid epidemic, the remaining family members fled to a German Colony on the Steppes, traveling in a cart drawn by a camel.
