There, he taught drawing at the Government National School and privately (c.1852 - 1873), after which he turned to painting full time. His mediums were pastel, watercolor and oil. His subjects were primarily landscapes and genre* depicting the wilderness of Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, New York State, Vermont and Maine.
