He made a second visit to Central America (Nicaragua) in search of fresh material, and also perhaps due to a burst of interest that had developed about the region due to plans for the creation of a canal route across the Isthmus of Panama. His painting, The Old Cathedral, Panama' (1866) depicts colonial churches, recognizable by their domes and steeples, often 'stock' features in panoramic landscapes of the region at that time. Warren was born in Coventry, New York to a successful farming family. He worked on the farm until he began his studies with Tompkins H. Matteson at Sherburne, New York. He... Read full biography
