Arseny Meshersky studied at the art academy in St. Petersburg from 1854 to 1857, during which time his artistic talent was already honored with first awards. In 1857 he spent two years in Switzerland to deepen his artistic training under Alexandre Calame (1810-1864). From 1859 he frequently traveled through Europe, sometimes for more than one year.
