He then spent several years in Italy. In 1891, he continued his studies under Theodor Hagen in Weimar. From 1912, he worked as a professor in Kiel and Weimar. Arp created especially oil paintings and watercolors, featuring German landscapes with views of his native Schleswig-Holstein and the Fjords in Kiel, as well as motifs from his trips to southern Germany, the Alps and Italy. Arp died in 1913.
