The French-born painter and draftsman Charles-Clos Olsommer studied from 1901 with Charles L'Eplattenier at the École d'Art in La Chaux-de-Fonds, at the painting school of Moritz Heyman in Munich and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva. He also undertook study trips to Italy, France, Prague and Bulgaria. From 1912 Charles lived in Veyras, where he had a house built, which today serves as an artist's museum. His extensive work consists mainly of religious and allegorical-symbolist representations, besides he created landscapes, portraits and still lifes. Olsommer's art echoes of the Italian early Renaissance; the icon painting and the line aesthetics of the Art Nouveau are noticeable.
