From New Orleans, Clarence Millet was a prolific painter in a simplistic realist style whose work, some of it nostalgic, in the early 20th-century documents much of the lifestyle of Louisiana people in his area. As a young man, he worked in a store in New Orleans, where his art talent became apparent to persons who encouraged him to get professional training. He became a student at Tulane University in New Orleans and then at the Art Students League in New York City, where George Bridgman was his primary instructor.
