Born in Melbourne in 1892, Cyril Lander became a painter and furniture maker. A member of the Perth Society of Artists and Fellow of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts, he won the Hotchin prize for his watercolours in 1957 and 1959. His paintings ranged through watercolours and oils and sometimes charcoal. His subjects spanned Australian landscapes to those of Europe. Cyril usually framed his own pictures. His paintings ranged through watercolours and oils and sometimes charcoal. His subjects spanned Australian landscapes to those of Europe. Cyril usually framed his own pictures. Cyril Lander also designed and made classical furniture in Queen Anne, Sheraton and other styles, and repaired antique furniture. Lander died in 1983.
