Together with Compton and Reschreiter, Ernst Platz was the third member of the ‘Munich mountain painting triumvirate’. All three artists were mountain climbers and painters, successful not only as painters and commercial artists, but also recognized mountaineers with first ascents. They were also scientifically active, taking part in expeditions to exotic mountain regions such as the Andes, the Caucasus, and Kilimanjaro.
