Ernst Schumacher was a German painter born in Mönchengladbach in 1905. He studied under Max Stern in Düsseldorf and worked in the studio of Bruno Goller. Schumacher was a member of the artist group "The Young Rhineland" and the Rhenish Secession. In 1947, he was appointed professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin. He died in Berlin in 1963.
