Shan Fan was born in the Chinese province Zhejiang. He studied traditional bamboo painting at the academy in Hangzhou. In 1984 he moved to Germany, where he still lives and works, but also regularly spends long periods in his Chinese homeland. Aside from works influenced by European art, Shan Fan also turns again and again to Far Eastern art with its slow, almost meditative painting. Aside from works influenced by European art, Shan Fan also turns again and again to Far Eastern art with its slow, almost meditative painting.
