In 1886, Richardson sailed to Paris to join his friends Childe Hassam, Willard Metcalf, and others to continue his art education at the Academie Julian where he was a student of Gustave Boulanger, Lucien Doucet, Jules Lefebvre, Jean Paul Laurens, and Benjamin Constant. He exhibited at the Salon in 1889, 1890, and l894-1899, receiving Honorable Mention for A Summer Evening--Etaples in 1899.
