From Wisconsin, Frank Liddell settled in Los Angeles in 1883 and was a banker and self-taught artist who in his leisure, painted in oils and watercolors. He was one of the founders of the California Art Club, dedicated to plein-air landscape painting, and served as the first president in 1909.
