Georges Csato was born in Hungary in 1910. He studied in Vienna, and later Prague, under some of the great names of the period including Archipenko, Hofer, Kokoschka and Thiel who had taken refuge there having fled Nazi Germany. Georges was imprisoned by Russians during the war. Afterwards, he became a distinguished portrait painter with sitters including Colette, Einstein, Rachmaniov and Bertrand Russell. Georges Csato was born in Hungary in 1910. He studied in Vienna, and later Prague, under some of the great names of the period including Archipenko, Hofer, Kokoschka and Thiel who had taken refuge there having fled Nazi Germany. Georges was imprisoned by Russians during the war. Afterwards, he became a distinguished portrait painter with sitters including Colette, Einstein, Rachmaniov and Bertrand Russell. Georges first exhibition, organized by Jean Cocteau, was held in Paris in 1948. Georges produced attractive abstracts to great acclaim in the post-war years. Recently a retrospective of his work was held by the Buford art dealer, Brian Sinfield. Georges Csato died in 1983.
