Ginevra Cantofoli lived from 1608 to 1672. Cantofoli was a talented Bolognese painter from the inner circle of Elisabetta Sirani and the broader circle of Guido Reni. She frequently drew inspiration from Reni's motifs of half-figure female saints and allegories, and the type used in the present work is reminiscent of Reni's "Temperanza". She frequently drew inspiration from Reni's motifs of half-figure female saints and allegories, and the type used in the present work is reminiscent of Reni's "Temperanza".
