After his marriage, he spent his summers on Deer Isle in Maine and was an avid sailing enthusiast. Among his illustrator friends were Charles Dana Gibson, E.B. White and T.S. Sullivant. He married 27 May 1915 to Margaret Kempton, and they had two children: Margaret (1916- ) and David 1918-1988.
