Hans Canon's real name was Johann Straširipka (1829-1885). Johann Straširipka, whose pseudonym was Hans Canon, was born in Vienna in 1829. From 1845 on he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. His teachers were amongst others Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller and Carl Rahl. After the academy and a short period as officer in the Austrian Army, he started traveling Western Europe, Italy and the Orient.
