He was the son of the portrait painter Hans Peter Feddersen the Elder; his cousin was the painter Auguste Margarethe Feddersen . He studied at the art academies in Düsseldorf with Oswald Achenbach from 1866 to 1871 and from 1871 in Weimar with Theodor Hagen, whom he had followed from Düsseldorf to Weimar....
