Johann Wilhelm Schirmer was a German painter born in Düsseldorf in 1833. He was a member of the Düsseldorf School and the Berlin Secession. Schirmer was known for his realistic oil paintings of landscapes and portraits. He studied under several prominent artists, including his father-in-law, Johann Wilhelm Schadow. Schirmer taught at the Düsseldorf Academy and later became a professor at the Berlin Academy. He died in Berlin in 1910.
