Hubert Kaplan was born in 1940 in Munich, Germany. Kaplan first learned the profession of wallpaperer and then completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter. He later studied painting at the Academy in Munich. Inspired by Eduard I Schleich and Adolf Heinrich Lier, he mainly painted Bavarian landscapes.
