1905: Ida Karskaya was born in Bender (Russia, province of Bessarabia, at present Moldavian Republic). 1922: Leaves her country to study medicine in Ghent (Belgium) where she stays one year. 1924: Moves to France, marries the painter Serge Karsky in 1930. She herself starts painting a few years before the war and becomes acquainted with Chaim Soutine who encourages her to continue.
