He trained at various art schools in Barcelona and travelled to Paris in 1911. He directed a private academy of fine arts in Barcelona before moving to Olot, where he became one of the leading exponents of the new Olot school. He returned to Tarragona and won the extraordinary prize at the 1929 Spring Exhibition in Barcelona. He co-directed the Taller-Escuela de Tarragona, an artistic training centre, with Joan Rebull. Mallol and Rebull were appointed delegates of the Artistic Heritage Commission of the city of Tarragona. The Workshop-School was destroyed in a bombardment in 1938, and the teaching activity was transferred to the Archbishop's Palace. Classes continued until the end of the war.
